Checking into a high-risk location

Checking into a high-risk location

Locations requiring mandatory checking in

From 14 April 2022, you must check in and show proof of vaccination status when visiting or working at these locations:

  • hospitals
  • disability accommodation services
  • residential aged care
  • corrective services facilities
  • detention centres.

You must also check in and show proof of vaccination status if you work at a school, childcare or an airport.

How to check in

  1. Open the Check In Qld app, select 'Check In Now' and hover your smartphone camera over the Check In Qld QR code.
  2. Add in any additional people—those who are with you without their own device or app. You will see the option to check in additional people. Turn this on and enter in their names.
  3. When the check-in is complete, show staff your successful check in screen.

For unaccompanied children (under the age of 16) or in the case of emergency, you don't have to check in.

Showing proof of vaccination status

When checking into high-risk locations, you may be asked to show your proof of COVID-19 vaccination status.

Find out how to add your vaccination status to the app and other ways to provide proof if you can't use the app.

Having trouble checking in?

Can't find your location

If the Check In Qld app can't find your location when you try to check in, it may be because you don't have a strong enough mobile data connection. If the location has a free Wi-Fi connection, you can try using this to check in on the app.

If you are not connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data, the app will still record your time and date of checking in. The app will upload the data to the server the next time you have an internet connection.

The app won't work

Sometimes the app may be unavailable due to maintenance or other issues. Check if the place you're checking into has an alternative way to check in.

You can also check that you have the latest version of the app. Using the device that you've installed the app on, go to the appropriate app store page (Google Play or the App Store). If the button displays 'Update', tap this to install the latest version. If the button displays 'Open', then you have the latest version of the app installed.

Can you be refused entry to a high-risk location?

High-risk locations can refuse entry if you don't check in or can't show proof of your vaccination status (either fully vaccinated or have a valid medical exemption).
